Don Meehan established a world record of singing 101 overdubbed voices on a single record. The harmonies may sound a bit strange to the trained and untrained ear, however, is also a unique contemporary arrangement by six time Grammy winner, Ray Moore, who originally wrote the arrangement for the famous John Aldis Choir in England to record on Columbia Records. But the unusual harmonies in fourths were too difficult for them to hear and they scrapped it. Ray showed it to Don and Don took the challenge.

    Story Behind the Song
Once again with his vast experience singing and recording, multi-talented Don Meehan took this challenge to overdub an astounding 101 of his own voices on this unique a cappella recording singing soprano, alto, tenor and bass in his own key and within his wide vocal range. Taking a full six days, he overdubbed the voices on a 16 track tape machine.----------------------------------------------------------- Here is how he did it: With a metronome recorded on track 16 he laid down his voices on tracks 1 through 14 and mixed those down (mono) to track 15. He recorded on 1 through 13 and mixed those down to 14 (total of 27. Recorded on 1 through 12 and mixed those to 13 (total of 39). Recorded on 1 through 11 and mixed those to 12 (total of 50). Recorded on 1 through 10 and mixed those to 11 (total 60). Recorded on 1 through 9 and mixed those to 10 (total 69. Recorded on 1 through 8 and mixed those to 9 (total 77. Recorded on 1 through 7 and mixed to 8. (total 84). Recorded on 1 through 6 and mixed to 7 (total 90). Recorded on 1 through 5 and mixed to 6 (total 95). Recorded on tracks 1 through 4 and mixed to track 5 (total 99). Two more on tracks 1 and 2 and he mixed it all down to two track stereo. Another of Don’s ultimate ego trips is to hear Silent Night in surround sound surrounded by 101 of his own voices.---------------------------------------------His goal now is to overdub 250 voices on another challenging project.

    Lyrics
    SILENT NIGHT
    (Arranged by Ray Moore)

    Silent Night holy night
    All is calm
    All is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild.
    Sleep in heavenly peace
    Sleep in heavenly peace.

    Silent Night holy night
    Son of God
    Love’s pure light
Radiant beams from thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace.
    Jesus Lord at thy birth,
    Jesus Lord at thy birth.

    Silent Night holy night
    Wondrous star
    Lend thy light
With the angels let us sing
    Alleluia to our King
    Christ the Savior is born.
    Christ the Savior is born.
    Amen
