Story Behind the Song
This piece is divided like this (for those who care)
"Meditation" - A
"Dance" - B
"Preperation for the Sacrifice & Sacrifice" - C
"Dance" - B'
"Post-Sacrifice Meditation" - A' + coda
This piece represents my first expiriment in combining 12 tone and free tonal composition. I used the same tone row that I used in "Hommage a Kurosawa", but much differently. I do use the row in a strict serial way in the piece, altough rarely. I mostly used it for harmonic motion, key pitches and tonal centers. At times, I completely abandon the row (like in the dance). I wanted to write a large, single movement guitar piece that would be suited to performing in the concert hall.
"Meditation, Dance & Sacrifice" was premiered by Steve Kostelnik in Austin, Texas on May 5th, 2000.
