Story Behind the Song
This song was inspired by a poem my friend, Ann O'Flannigan, emailed to me on just the day I needed to write something for a music library. Hopefully you'll hear this tune on a film or tv show soundtrack someday soon.
Lyrics
Throw my suitcase in the trunk, the rest in a sack
Here take your keys - I’m off to somewhere…not looking back
Step foot out the doorway and I’m good to go
Don’t need a thing, don’t need the memories – just give back my soul
Driving into the setting sun
Can’t take no more – I’ve got to run
Sunlight so bright it burns in my eyes
Just like your love, just like your lies
No will, no fight – I’ll let my heart die
So I’m gonna DRIVE…I’m gonna DRIVE…to sunlight
Been burned so many times my heart’s grown cold
You never thought I’d leave, never thought I’d be so bold
No loving arms to hold you, no eyes to see
Alone you’ll be drifting off to nowhere…no longer to me
Driving into the setting sun
Can’t take no more – I’ve got to run
Sunlight so bright it burns in my eyes
Just like your love, just like your lies
No will, no fight – I’ll let my heart die
So I’m gonna DRIVE…won’t you let me fly…
Run from the ugliness we had become
Distance myself from the harmful one
Go be the answer, leave the problem
Drive because my new life has begun
Sunlight so bright it burns in my eyes
Just like your love, just like your lies
No will, no fight – I’ll let my heart die
So I’m gonna DRIVE…don’t wanna hide…let me fly…I’m gonna DRIVE…
