Lyrics
The Archdiocese of Shame
The Child cowers in the darkness; he's learned to make himself small.
To escape to a place deep within himself, understanding the uncertainty of it all.
Did you pick him up and tell him that you loved him?
Did you shield him from the violence the assault?
Did you let him know you valued his existence?
That the actions of another are not his fault.
There are things in this world a child should never see.
Was it fear that kept you silent, or simple apathy?
Inaction is an insidious crime. They were helpless can't you see?
And a wounded soul will never know peace, nor love, or harmony.
The predator, the wolf in sheep's clothing. Abusing trust to satisfy his wants.
Perpetuating crimes against the innocents, and hiding beneath the mantle of his God.
Did you look away in fear of disclosure? & Dismiss the accusations with a nod?
You failed the very people who believed in you
You failed your vow, your Faith you failed your God
There are things in this world a boy should never be.
To be broken yet be burdened with such responsibility
To be robbed of his childhood and set adrift upon the sea.
To be abused in the name of god, it's a stark reality
The young man he no longer cowers, the wounds run far to deep
And the place where he used to hide within himself, is the conciseness
Which haunts him in his sleep.
The abuse, abandonment and anguish have left him half a man
His tender youth is gone. Replaced with a searing pain and emptiness
So much promise how could things have gone so wrong?
There are things in this world no one should ever see.
But if vigilance can save one child, then vigilant we must be
The cycle must be broken, as we strive for dignity
No more monsters in the confessional box, our children must be free.
