    Story Behind the Song
"I was listening to Bob Dylan and became inspired for the feel of this song", says Doug," and started thinking of 'Easy Rider' type imagery, which led me to general contemplation of Route 66, cafes, diners, fireworks stands, and the progression of the
American automobile, which let me to ponder America's basis in capitalism and the giant race that it seem to create out of the lives of everyday people and how it's horrible and beautiful all at the same time."

    Lyrics
As the ragged dreamer stumbles on
    He leaves a dusty trail
    The sandman follows eagerly
with a face as hard as nails

The conflict that ensues is told by letters
    through the mail
And polaroids of what he found when he unfurled his sails

My feet are growing weary with each and every passing day
I'm starting to feel the headache that began last year today
And no matter what kinds of pills I take it still won't go away
Resulting in the tendency for thoughts to go astray

Everybody's running for the finish line tonight
Encircling the valley with the ocean in their sights
Laughing at the bicycles on the sidewalk taking flight
Screaming through the afterglow of children flying kites

The fireworks on Monday were a sight for all to see
With melted chocolate cigarettes we thanked god we were free
And as I fell asleep last night a thought occoured to me
Giants will rattle their cages while we break out casually
