A lively tune about an imaginary place in the appalachian mountains where people gather at an old general store every Saturday night to visit while the locals folks play some music.

    Story Behind the Song
I wrote this song several years ago. It's about getting away from the city to a simpler time when people worked in the hills during the week and came to gather on Saturday night at the local general store and tell stories and play a little music. This song has become a favorite of ours now that we all play on it. My 17 year old daughter plays the penny whistle on it giving it a little celtic flavor, while my 9 year old daughter accompanies on mandolin and my wife keeps the beat on the spoons. It was recorded live in our living room.

    McHENRY FALLS
    © RICK STEINBURG, 1999

    INTRO:
IF THE CITY GETS TOO CRAZY AND YOU’VE HAD YOUR FILL
I KNOW A LITTLE PLACE WHERE SOMEHOW TIME STANDS STILL
JUST TAKE A LITTLE DRIVE ALONG THE MOUNTAIN TRAIL
AND WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN OVER THE HILLS

    CHORUS:
ANOTHER SATURDAY NIGHT AT McHENRY’S GROCERY
BETTER SHOW UP EARLY, ‘CAUSE IT’S STANDIN’ ROOM ONLY
WHEN THE MUSIC STARTS PLAYIN’ AND THE MOONSHINE'S FLOWIN’
YOU’LL BE TAPPIN’ YOUR FEET WHEN THE CROWD GETS GOIN’
DOWN FROM THE HILLS WITH A COFFIN CASE
WHEN HE PLAYS THAT OLD MARTIN, IT FILLS THE PLACE
WITH MUSIC SO SWEET YOU’D THINK THE WORLD MIGHT END
WELCOME TO McHENRY FALLS MY FRIEND

    VERSE 1:
THE MUSIC WAS A’POURIN’ OUT INTO THE NIGHT
THEY WAS TRADIN’ OLD SONGS AND TELLIN’ NEW LIES
WHEN A MAN PULLED UP IN A CADILLAC
HEADED BACK TO NASHVILLE BUT HE NEEDED SOME GAS
HE WAS ‘BOUT TO LEAVE WHEN HE HEARD THEM GUITARS
TOLD JIMMY McCOY HE COULD MAKE HIM A STAR
PLAYIN’ FIDDLE IN A COUNTRY WESTERN BAND
JIMMY JUST SMILED, BUT THEN HE SHOOK HIS HEAD
HE SAID “THANK Y’KINDLY MISTER, I’LL JUST STAY HERE INSTEAD”

    CHORUS:

    VERSE 2:
“ I AIN’T LEAVIN’ HERE” THATS WHAT JIMMY SAID
SO GO ON TAKE YOUR MONEY, HE DON’T CARE ABOUT IT
HE DON’T NEVER WANNA GET TOO FAR FROM HOME
IF HE WENT TO THE CITY HE’D JUST BE ALONE
BESIDES, HE’S GOTTA PICK SWEET CORN BEFORE NEXT TUESDAY
HE SINGS WITH THE CHURCH CHOIR ON WEDNESDAY
THURSDAY, HE’S GONNA HITCH UP THAT OL’ MULE
HE ‘S GOT TOBACCO FIELDS TO PLOW ‘FORE FRIDAY’S THROUGH
AND THE NEXT DAY YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT HE’D GONNA DO

    CHORUS:
