    Story Behind the Song
This was the first song I wrote when I felt like songwriting was something I wanted to pursue. Usually when I start writing, music comes quickly, words come slowly, and usually they start with something along the lines of "I don't know." When I was writing this song, it was senior year of college, three days from graduating, and I realized that I had no idea where my life was heading. A bad relationship had left me stranded a year earlier, my life plans weren't working out, and I remember feeling profound frustration about the path I was on. Playing through the music, I found myself being challenged to have faith -- that the God Who had gotten me through so much already, would get me through the rest. Thank goodness!

    Lyrics
I don't know how to walk across the ocean
Or how to swim in the sea of your devotion
I don't know how to make a blind man see
I'm still afraid of what you want from me

I don't know how to turn water into wine
Or how to let go of a life that was never mine anyway
I don't know how to accept all your grace
Or how to look you in the face

    There's a lot I can't see
The way things were and are and one day will be
I don't know how this will all end
Just know my broken heart you'll still mend

    So I sing hallelujah
    So I sing hallelujah
    So I sing hallelujah
    Hallelujah

I don't know how to count eternity's days
Or how to walk with all of my broken and shallow ways
Still held down by my foolish pride
Yet for Your heart I'll still strive

So I will praise the king of creation
And I will fall in Your arms of salvation
And I will trust in the things I don't know
Take me down, let Your spirit flow

'Cos sometimes the faith of a child
Can put to shame the wise
Sometimes the faith of a blind man can
Open up a genius's eyes to see Your glory

    And I sing hallelujah
    And I sing hallelujah
    And I sing hallelujah
    Hallelujah
