Possibly the heaviest Columbus Dixon track to date, it still retains melody and listen-ability. Slightly sinister, about an infestation of flies.
CD: The Bitter Taste of Columbus Dixon

    Story Behind the Song
A somewhat sinister sounding track, although the event upon which it is based is quite funny. Christian had an infestation of flies in his house because a rat died under the floorboards. He went round hoovering them up out of the air.

First track we did with new bassist Rich Clarke. Tricky to record and get the build at the end to sound right. Plus Gav couldn't stay in time with the click track.

    Lyrics
    The flies hung around
    For days
    New and shiny
    Blackest grey
    Out of nowhere
    Out of somewhere
    Underneath, lying hidden

    Incubate
    Hatch and crawling
    Eat away
    The rodent’s unknowing
    And posthumous fostering

    All creatures need to feed

    So alike, so uniform
    A swarm of greeters
    At my door
    A hundred more today
Intent on unhygienic play, this flow

    Is quickening
    A living room
    That is living
    A steady trickling
    Of little wings
    Hungry minds

    All creatures need to feed

    The mother’s big mistake
    This broadcast
Won’t see the light of day
I am the witness and the law
    The executioner, time to say

    Goodbye to here
    A rapid exit beckoning
    A little sickening
    The captured lives
    I’m vacuuming

Food in death, life from decay
A circle joining in my face
    Creation
    From cessation
    The flies, the flies
    Demonstrating
But in my house it’s nauseating
    Creation
    Meets extinction.
