    Story Behind the Song
Instead of paying attention in class one evening, I began to consider the reality of what happens when the only thing that a man and woman have in common is sex, one of life's great illusions!

    Lyrics
Don’t know the last time we exchanged kind words to one another.
Even the good moments turn into hate.
I really can’t remember the last time I wanted you lying next to me
This big old bed feels kind of good with the extra space

I remember back when we started out,
we were as close as two people could be
When you saw one, the other wasn’t far behind.
In love we found confidence to believe

Now time has a particular way of making us all feel comfortable,
Especially when things are going our way
We forget that the things that brought one and one together
Are the same things that would make the two of us stay

Now youth has a way of exposing our ignorance
We claimed we’d never be what we’ve become
I’ll never hit you, you never cheat on me
For the rest of ever we would always be in love

But those words have no meaning until spoken with the breath of life.
For no relationship can stand on its own
We forgot to build our love on a firm foundation
Neither of us ever mentioned God

For if a relationship is destined to prosper,
That order must come from up above
So does that mean you and I have been sadly mistaken
All that fussing and fighting wasn’t love?

At least that’s where I thought we were headed
    Doesn’t every couple disagree?
And doesn’t everybody get into fight sometimes
Not normal? But that’s all I’ve seen.

So now the road seems to be nearing an end.
We both want to go separate ways
But like magnets situated at opposite ends
We wind up in a heated embrace

Which numbs the pain for a little while
Not a bad distraction, that sexual energy
The only thing we ever seem to get right is
Me on top of you on top of me.

But sooner or later, this physical thing will come to an end
And we’re right back where we started out.
    Soundless talking and foundationless intentions
Are all that fall from our mouths

This has got to stop, one way or another
You and I just don’t get along
At least for as long as our clothes are on
Perfect harmony once they fall off

I can’t remember that last time we just held one another
I can’t remember that last time I felt like you wanted me in your life
I can’t remember that last time you placed you heart in my hand for you knew I could make this all right

If we could only spend the rest of our lives together in bed,
Then our problems would be out of sight
And this confusion would make its way out of our minds
And we would’nt be holding on for dear life

Can’t remember the last time I honestly said I love you
Seems more like habit than reality
Can’t remember the last time I wanted you by my side
I only wish this was a bad dream, but instead.....IT'S THE TRUTH!
