The title song of the album, He Hopes, was written about the aging country star performer who has seen better days in his career, but the new sounds of country music has caught up with him leaving him nowhere to turn. He has everything, classic cars, trophys, he has been to the top, but his wife is gone, his kids are grown his record company let him go and his agent wont return his calls. Sad success story but he will not give up trying to write a hit song.

    Story Behind the Song
He Hopes was recorded in Dons Vegas home studio, doing his usual thing of recording drums, rhythm guitars and bass. Tim Wood adds some contemporary guitar sounds. Vladimir Kolenic plays piano and Buzz Evans does the chores on steel and lead guitar. Don sings and adds harmony and gives the song the new country flavor.

    Lyrics
    HE HOPES

    Words and Music
    by
    Don Meehan

    Verse
He sits on his back porch with a bag of chips and a pack of beer,
Tryin to write a song he hopes and prays the whole worlds gonna hear.
He picks some chords on his ol guitar hes played for forty years,
Sings the song that made him known and his eyes well up in tears.

He played the rodeos and bars and stadiums near and far.
Got a big ol mansion and classic cars, and trophies of a big name star.
Another generation has come and gone now he hears the DJs say,
That his golden voice and his great ol' songs sounded good yesterday.

    Chorus 1st and 3rd
Now, when he listens to the radio, hears a different drummer's beat
He cant relate to what they play. It's a sad reality.
The music he's not in time to, words he can't put rhymes to,
A changing world hes blind to, but He hopes Someone Will Hear.

    Verse
His record company let him go cause his sales were dippin low
His agent won't return his calls cause he can't book his show.
His kids are grown and his wife is gone and he dreams of the good ol years
Tryin' to write a great new song He hopes Someone Will Hear.

    Chorus 2nd
It's a cruel world he cant give in to but he tries to buck the tide.
The fans want someone young and new. Its a hard-nosed fact of life:
The music he's not in time to, words he cant put rhymes to,
A changing world hes blind to, but He hopes Someone Will Hear.

    Tag Verse (Ad lib)
He knows deep down inside hell never have another hit,
But he won't give up tryin cause hes too darn proud to quit.
So he'll sit out on his porch til all the chips and beer are gone
Doin' the only thing he knows how to do: writin and singin songs.

    To Chorus 3rd
