Story Behind the Song
There's always a story behind the song, isn't there?
I was learning to be submissive to my husband (wherever he is:)
I know who he is; I've known since 1998, but he wasn't ready for me and I wasn't ready for him.
As I was writing this song in the doctor's office (OB/GYN!) I was thinking about him and how I wished that he could have experienced the woman that I have become instead of the 'Springer broad' I once was.
The title came from something his sister said to me once: "Christina you are supposed to be his backbone." I thought about that, and asked God how it fits in HIS plan and this is what I came up with.
Incidently, this extraordinary man that I still love, composed the music for this track
Lyrics
excerpt from "Respect" - April 7, 2002
Evangelist Dr. Doris K. Limbrick
ACTS FULL GOSPEL COGIC, Oakland, CA
Dr. Bob Jackson, Pastor
I'm only human but I still want it all
Navis and Cadis and shopping sprees at the mall
We've got the Lord to catch us everyday when we fall
So stick to the script and just follow the protocol
Look babydoll I'm not gon' beat around the bush
I need to tell you something I've been keeping on the shush
Been thinking of the ways that I can make you happy
Rub your shoulders and back and twist up your nappy
Give you everything you need so we can succeed in life
Yes Boo I want to be your wife
I need a Chief Pop Um Collar
To make me scream and holla
While we stack dollars
Trustin' in the Father
If you want a Do Right Woman
You gots to be a Do Right Man
The kind of man I need
Is walking in the Master's Plan
I don't wanna love you baby
But I can't change what is
I'm not down with what's hers is ours
But what's his is his
Flesh of my flesh
Bone of my bone
I'm the only one to make you scream and moan
God said it wasn't good for man to be alone
A house ain't a home without a backbone
I'm a woman I'm a backbone
I'm a woman I'm a backbone
I wanna be down witchu
Can u be down wit me
So we can hustle together
And raise a family
Honesty fidelity and loyalty
Are some of those things we're gonna need
Security that comes from up above
If we don't show Him love
We're sure to scrub
Communication's key
While we stack our dubs, raise our cubs
Rub-a-dub and kick it in the hot tub
Flesh of my flesh
Bone of my bone
I'm the only one to make you scream and moan
God said it wasn't good for man to be alone
A house ain't a home without a backbone
I'm a woman I'm a backbone
I'm a woman I'm a backbone
Now I lay me down to sleep
These promises I vow to keep
Be down witchu in every way
But we can't forget to pray
Keep our spirits on the High
Keep our situation tight
Share my bed with at night
Doin' all the things we like
