I was the kid that always talked to strangers
I had to sip the sin, I had to taste the danger.
I didn't get along with the kids at school.
They said my hair was too long, said I looked like a fool.
Well they overlooked me. They left me ignored.
They sat me in the owner all alone and bored.
But their approval I wasn't lookin' for,
Cause I was tuned in*
*To My Power chord
Give me my power chord
Now the day had come, and I began to play
I got strung out on string, you know I HAD to play
I had to bang my head, I had to wake the dead.
Yeah, I could'a been a jock, but I rocked instead.
Then the day came, and I got to play
It was my turn to laugh and I blew them all away.
I showed them something they'd never seen before.
And I owe it all*
And now I'm older. I find life's a mother….
Every bill I pay gets replaced by another.
The checks I write bounce like a ball.
When I think I'm gonna lose it, I hear the call.
I start to sweat. I need to feel.
My fingers pressing tight on strings of steel.
It's pure anesthesia just like before.
I'll never outgrow the sound
Of a powerchord.
