Images from a mysterious dream. |

Story Behind the Song
We feel that this song was an example of the type of music we were evolving towards. It's one of my favorites.
Once again, Andrew brought the bass line and the words, and Alex added the swirling guitars. Michael came up with the lyrical melody and phrasing. When Bradley Bills signed on to do the recording with us, he came up with an incredible drum pattern for this one!
When I recorded the vocals, Andy and Alex encouraged me to enunciate less and try singing as though I were drunk. That's why some of the words are a slightly slurred. :-)
In the studio, we decided to add an intro after we had recorded the song. Andy took the root notes from the chorus of Mercury (in the same key) and played it on the piano. Doors were opened and closed, & keys jingled. Andy had written a poem to go with it, so he and Alex read it while Alex Richards (our engineer and co-manager) read the poem backwards, then AR read it forward while Andy & Alex read it backwards. I personally have no idea what they are saying.
Alex had a delay pedal that looped 5-second samples. He created several loops of volume swells from his guitar and looped that throughout the intro and the entire song. The idea was to digitally edit the intro to the song later, but we never got that far in the mixing/mastering process.
Lyrics
All the fluids are moving
they're swirling round
car crash... decadence
This is my muse
The super-mantra starts to build
the pain in my chest turns to thrills
you're tearing me apart
This is the muse of my heart
Lock me up
let it begin
put your space-gun to my head
This is my muse
Surround me in a mystery
keep me in a lucid dream
my stranger wispers "E.S.P."
This is the muse of my heart
