Based loosely upon earlier versions of "America," this one is more somber and written in a minor key. A slightly more contemporary type of melody, with simple chords and sung as a bass-baritone solo with snare drum backing. |

Story Behind the Song
This song came to me one morning for some reason. I had been thinking and talking about America in the world today. There is a slight reference to those somber happenings, but with a spirit of optimism and hope for the future.
Lyrics
America 2002
From the mountains to the prairies,
From the seas to shining seas,
To the oceans that surround her
Breaking white with foam so free,
We will always love and defend her,
Our home forever more,
And we'll love this land for ever,
From shore to blessed shore.
We can see the evil growing,
We can see disaster's toll.
May the world grow ever better,
May her influencve ever grow
Spreading joy and love throughout the world,
Making every nation free,
Protect her and defend her,
Guiding light for all to see.
From the mountains to the prairies,
From the sea to shining sea,
Protect her and defend her,
Guiding light of liberty.
