As with much of the music we've produced over the last five years, it's hard to put a label on it. In this particular case I've chosen Jazz Fusion as being the nearest descriptive title I can find from the list, based on what other people have described the song as. Ultimately, after years of trying to find a label for our music, we settled on Eclectic Rock as being closest the mark; you be the judge. |

Story Behind the Song
This was one of the more eclectic pieces of eclectic rock that we produced over the last few years, and it changed somewhat from it's original conception to it's final version as shown here. From Lee's original guitar-based composition we ended up with a sax part and ultimately even a chimes solo in the middle of the song!
One of our earlier efforts using Cubase, this was a nightmare to record, as the song itself developed during the course of the recording, as well as the Cubase learning curve having it's effect. At this time I was still learning about building tempo changes into songs in Cubase, which was one of the main bits of fun and games that we had with this one, but it got there in the end.
Lyrics
RUNAWAY
Words & music : L. Brown
Door creaks, sound of falling feet,
As a small child leaves the room.
Young man, now you stand
Avoiding sight amongst the gloom.
Makes his way to breaking day
A small child leaves the room.
Collects the things that made his life
Worth the time he spent.
Twisting key, the child is free,
Whatever mother meant.
Morning street, unlaced feet,
Forgetting sense of doom.
He’s been told, can’t cross the road,
Breakfast will be soon.
So he returns, and mother learns
Her small child left the room.
He feels his life is rearranging,
Choices are so complicated;
Yet he feels the time is right
As morning sun breaks through the night.
Runaway, find your way,
Make your way back home.
Little man, all you’ve found
Is yourself alone.
