Over a year after their death, Dichotic has released a new track! On June 17, 2002 we wrote Scratched Out. Drums/guitar/bass were recorded on June 21st, vocals on the 22nd. Then we fought about the mix for a while (some things never change, even when you're dead). And now you can hear it to. Oh yeah, it's a 4-track recording, but it's pretty well done.

    Story Behind the Song
Dichotic is no longer an active performing band, but we learned Scratched Out in one night and recorded it in a matter of hours.

    Lyrics
Scratched out, work of art, everything dies
In the face, of time, raked in, laughingstock
    Opportunity, curtailed, nullified
    Defiant ways, now estranged, pacified
    Priorities, reanalyzed, surging
    To the, forefront, self-sufficient
    Satisfied, with the, status quo
    Degradation, of twisted, invention

    Hollow...regurgitation...followed by...non-conclusion

    Hungry...masses of...groveling fools...unsatiated

    Profligate abandonment
    Eschewing their senses
    Pale memento ignites
    Conflagration
    Questionable motives
    Overwhelmed by uncertainty

Underlying conflict, muffled anticipation, lifeless, grounded, dead and
    buried
Charred remnants of ambition now litter the discarded landscape
Faint hope remains in the afterglow. There's no telling the probability.
Grabbing the goat by the horns, and now yu proudly wear them.

Scratched out, work of art, everything dies
In the face, of time, raked in, laughingstock
    Opportunity, curtailed, nullified
    Defiant ways, now estranged, pacified

Keenly aware of the ramnifications, spiteful testimony, moral accusation
The albatross grows heavy now, eventual conclusion
Unthinkable but not impossible, no practical alternative
Nothing is scared or written in stone to preserve it
