Story Behind the Song
This song was inspired as I was working on the "Spooky Interference" remix for my friend Pamplemousse in the UK. I rearranged it and wrote lyrics, turning ambient downtempo into "Portishead meets Depeche Mode" trip-pop.
Lyrics
Final Mile
by Andrew Rothman
With my lips on your skin,
I can feel the earth spin...
Whirling faster and faster now.
There's a fire within,
And the walls are too thin...
Showing cracks in the plaster now.
This night, this moon, this burning.
This moment, this meanwhile.
Lie back, close your eyes, let me take you.
Let me carry you through this final mile.
Muffled sounds from the street.
Curtains sway in the heat...
Brushing gently against your thigh.
And the circle completes,
With the sweat in the sheets...
And the tears welling in your eyes.
This breath, this blink, this instant...
The end of this denial.
Lie back, let me quell all the trembling.
Let me carry you through this final mile.
'For now the winter is past.
The rain is over and gone.
The flowers appear on the earth.
The time of singing has come.'
