    Story Behind the Song
The other evening I sat down and wrote the first stanza to what I thought was going to be a new song. The words came quickly and I realized that it was becoming a poem meant for recitation, and needed to be left that way. It's not often that I write poetry that remains without melody. For me, this little poem captured a remembrance of the innocence of my childhood, and how we can so easily slip into becoming something we truly are not. I hope it holds a little truth for you too.
    Peace, Roy

    A Fewer Set Of Ways

From time to time in travels
    I'm reminded of those days
When life was lived more simply
With a fewer set of ways

Ways that leaned more towards love
    And family, and smarts
And not so much like ways today
    That tend to harden hearts

Don't think that I'm just groaning
    Or lamenting out of spite
But there's just so many things today
    That take away our light

The light of love for others
The light of peace towards men
    The light of service given
And the light of trusted friends

It seems that everyplace we go
    There's something we must buy
And everywhere we cast our eyes
A way, or thing to try

And try we must, we've been convinced
    Our progress feels at stake
But some things tried, inflict a wound
And scar our hearts with hate

We hate our boss, we hate our life
    We hate the endless lines
We hate the beggars on the street
And we hate their little signs

    And all-consuming this becomes
    And nudges off the course
    The very life we're living
And it hides us from our source

    The source of every comfort
    The source of peace within
The source who leads back to the light
    All women, and all men

To that place we all remember
To those quoted, "good ole days"
When life was lived more simply
With a fewer set of ways
