The latest from Goodnight Moon, and one of the lyrically best songs I've ever written. As for what it's about... you'll have to listen and see. |

Story Behind the Song
Of all the songs I've written, this is one that I'd especially like to let you decide what it means. What is significant about it is that it broke a long dry spell, and since I wrote it (at the end of 2001) I've been writing much more.
Lyrics
Miss September takes off her clothes
And she walks into a world where
No one knows her
Miss September says she's fine
And she'll stop, and wonder
When she has the time
She's a demon on heels
Sharp enough to divide
All the haters and lovers
On this pinwheel ride
In the midst of the masses,
She's a murderous flame
Throw down all your defenses
And scream out her name
Miss September, her wounded pride
It just won't let her sit back
And enjoy the ride
Miss September is on a mission
And she will accept
Nothing but her final conditions
She says surrender to me
Everything that you are
For I know you are guilty
It's a matter of my law
In the final conclusion
We'll be dust all the same
And she will dance in our ashes
'Till they spell out her name
Miss September
Miss September steps aside
And she tells her minions
To take on the tide
Miss September counts the days
As she whispers to me
In insidious ways
Go and hide in your houses
Send your children to war
She will be there behind you
Helping settle the score
And if she calls you a traitor
It will come to be true
If they ask for your plea,
Just tell them you knew
Miss September takes off her clothes
And she walks into a world where
No one knows her
