Story Behind the Song
Sometimes the most haunting and beautiful music soars out of a sad moment, becoming joyous in the process...like a cry that turns into laughter.
After dwelling on a dream where my deceased grandfather said some quizzical things to me, I wrote this song and recorded it in one day. It's about "best laid plans" and things turning out in ways you never anticipate. It's about living in a big-city apartment for 50 years in perfect safety, only to retire to Florida and get socked by a hurricane...among other things.
Lyrics
You wanted to come home to Chicago,
But things didn't turn out that way.
The winds of Miami were just too strong,
And that's where you had to stay.
Got to take care of my girl,
Might be hard from another world...but oh, well...
There's something better come tomorrow,
But you've got to leave behind today,
There's something better come tomorrow,
But you've got to leave your yesterdays.
We spent a lifetime up in the air.
There was always time for one last kiss.
You say he's doing great down there.
I'll suffer the irony of this.
Got to take care of my girl,
Might be hard from another world...but oh, well...
There's something better comes tomorrow...
