    Story Behind the Song
Recorded at Lovejuice Studio in Riverside, CA on Dec. 18-19, 1999.

    Lyrics
Perched atop these hotel steps. Scrape the paint away as she wept. He left his life as she slept. Life is a hell only god could invent. Pouting lips kiss the suicide chic, asphyxiation in the fall, come winter it's slit wrists. And I'd ask you to stay but I'd just drown in the drink. Curse away the moon, and hope the sun comes through. About midday I'll be cursing that too. (Underneath my smiling face on the newspaper page "Why bother with life, when death is all the rage?" Soon I'll be buried but never forgotten. The city streets will forever ring with glorious applause.) The birds are circling up above. I'd have to swear they are all pearl white doves. The more I cry, the closer they come. One more tear, and surely I'm done. What becomes of a man when his phone just rings? When he feels so bad he hopes he never again feels a thing? When he dies in his winter clothes and in comes spring? When the swan forgets altogether what song he is to sing. Soon I'll be buried but never forgotten. The city streets will forever ring with glorious applause.(Life is a hell only man can take for granted.)
