Story Behind the Song
After over 25 years as a performing singer/musician, I've found that on every occasion that there appeared to be an opportunity for some "so-called" success, friends and fans implored that I not forget them when I hit the "big time."
On the other hand, as I find the "big time" so extremely elusive, I ask fans and friends if they'll, in turn, remember me.
Lyrics
"Remember Me?"
You used to be such a sweet thing.
You used to be such an innocent child.
What a dif'rence a day can bring;
Now you're livin' life loose and wild. Yea,
You used to dig like a dog that scrounges,
Takin' anything that you could get;
Now you're playin' in them high-class lounges
To people hopin' you won't forget. Well,
I remember you when you were nothin'.
I remember you when you were down and out.
But, now, I guess you're really som'thin to see. And,
I kind 'a wonder if you remember me.
You used to have your feet on the ground;
Now, you seem to be floatin' on airs
With would-be friends floatin' all around you,
You don't have anyone who really cares. Well,
I remember you when you were nothin'.
I remember you when you were down and out.
But, now, I guess you're really som'thin to see. And,
I kind 'a wonder if you remember me.
I knew you when you were nothin'.
I knew you when you were down and out.
Now, I here you're really somethin' to see, and
Can you remember when you knew me.
