Story Behind the Song
Inspired by imagery from a dream, where a paper-mache Statue of Liberty was running through a city, knocking down the buildings. A song about how tired we can all feel, putting up with the world around us, the people that use us, the rules that strangle us. And how one day we might realise we won't put up with it any longer.
Lyrics
I can see you under the rubble,
reaching out for me to set you free.
Buildings are tired of living in silence,
foundations have proved to be too strong.
Come so close to me, close enough to burn the skin.
There is a penance that we're forced to pay,
when asbestos trees refuse to obey.
Billboards are coming clean,
there's static on the tv screen,
antennae crashing to the ground
and all you can hear is this sound.
Come so close to me, close enough to burn the skin.
Didn't you notice us? We've been waiting.
