Story Behind the Song
Written as a tribute to Janis for being the first female rocker to take it to the fore front of this still male dominated music empire. Her essence and talent broke the barriers by simply using her raw and gifted power to create a amazing musical presence. Though I was just a small child during her hey day, and she died on my birthday, the song is a thank you for changing the times and changing the voice of rock and roll!
About the tune . . the song employs the hype of her stardom. It sheds light on the users and abusers in her life, the drug use the parties but ultimately the legacy. Musically I wanted the the "now" sound with heavy tuned down guitar, but also with a vintage feel, so we incorporated the voice box and phased sound. I used two part vocal harmony in the verse section to fatten up the groove. Lyrically, the pre chorus uses a play on words by using two of Jolpin's song titles, Tell Mama and Catch Me Daddy. Please enjoy. OH yeah, anybody out there that needs a track for a Janis movie, I'm interested!
Lyrics
Joplin Pompous Opus
Leaving from ground zero
Climbing the walls
Getting no where faster
Coming there slower
Coming home,"Catch me daddy"
I'm seeing the sky, "Tell mama"
Joplin Pompous Opus
Joplin Pompous Opus
Joplin - Pompous Opus
Tell Pearl, you got it, you got it right
Feelings approaching my body's convulsion's
Flying like a space cadet
Some are movers
Some are losers
Coming home,"Catch me daddy"
I'm seeing the sky, "Tell mama"
Joplin Pompous Opus
Joplin Pompous Opus
Joplin - Pompous Opus
Tell Pearl, baby, baby coming home
Hey Pearl I miss that girl
Leaving from ground zero
Climbing the walls
Getting no where faster
Coming there slower
Coming home,"Catch me daddy"
I'm seeing the sky, "Tell mama"
Joplin Pompous Opus
Joplin Pompous Opus
Joplin - Pompous Opus
Tell Pearl, she has the "Legend", girl
I like that Pearl...I miss that girl
