Story Behind the Song
My friend Michael used to ask, "when are things going to settle down so I can have some idea of what's going on?"... and I would say, "Man, life is dancing on quicksand... once you accept that, it won't bother you that the scenery keeps changing."
Well that inspired this song.
The actual story was inspired by Dilbert creator, Scott Adams' book, "Better Living Through Stealing Office Supplies."
Lyrics
Sun comes up, sun going down.
Spins my head round and round
Look one way, it's all the same
Then I turn back around and everything has changed.
I'm dancing on quicksand, skating on thin ice.
Whenever I step forward once,
I got to quick step back twice.
Went in to work, things got rearrange
Consultant there said, "boy you can't be scared to change."
I said "I ain't scared." He said, "that's good."
"'cause we're gonna let you take a walk right round the neighborhood."
I'm dancing on quicksand, skating on thin ice.
Whenever I step forward once,
I got to quick step back twice.
Work hard all my life, don't like to complain,
But I'm out on the street here begging for spare change.
But I got an idea - know just what I can do:
I'm headed back to work. I can be a consultant too.
I'm dancing on quicksand, skating on thin ice.
Whenever I step forward once,
I got to quick step back twice.
