    Story Behind the Song
I love the ending on this song. I want to end all my musicals this way. I wrote this song in Boston as I was walking along the Charles River on Storrow Drive. I had to get to a pay phone and sing the melody into my answering machine before it evolved into something else.

Sometimes I'll be sound asleep and a song will come and wake me up. Then I have to decide if I want to get up and put it down or go back to sleep.

    Sometimes I don't think I have a choice.

I want you to close your eyes
    I want you to see

Each step there alone you led
    With your back on me

    It was just before morning
    At World’s End

I’d be in your shadow soon
    So I ran ahead

I know I was angry then
But I thought you would know

    What every woman wants
    Every man to know

Once I was out of view
    I fell on my knees
When I walk away from you
You’re supposed to come after me

I want you to listen in
    I want you to hear

The sound of a broken heart
    Is a silent tear

I know you were angry then
But I thought you should know

    What every woman wants
    Every man to know

Once I was out of view
    I fell on my knees
When I walk away from you
You’re supposed to come after me
