	Lyrics Momma had a black book she kept high upon a shelf What mysteries did it contain I wondered to myself One day I stood upon a chair & I got that great book down And I opened up the pages as I sat on the ground As far as I could tell it was the story of a man But it was not an easy read & hard to understand I had so many words, more than I had ever seen But that book it changed my life when I read John 3:16 Momma's Bible taught me right from wrong And Momma's Bible spoke to me so strong Jesus loves me this one thing I know And Momma's Bible it told me so Well the day that I turned sixteen man I thought I knew it all And I traded in that Bible for loud music & a car And I remembered how Jesus turned that water into wine So I did my share of drinking & I partied all the time Momma's Bible said turn the other cheek But I could not do that I didn't want to appear weak An eye for an eye & a tooth for a tooth And that's the way I lived my life & I got the scars as proof Now that I am older with a family of my own So many years have passed me by & I've wandered far from home But I remember Momma's Bible & the path that it had shown And like a prodigal son I follow it back home Momma's Bible said he died upon the cross And Momma's Bible said he came to save the lost For God so loved the world that he gave his only son And Momma's Bible told me he's the one
