Lyrics
Moaning in background.
MALONEY: Transfer the EHM to Holodeck 1; get an emergency medical facility up and running! Shannon, you do the same on Holodeck 2!
Door hisses open.
NIEHAUS: Pat! You’ve got to help him!
MALONEY: Just a second, Rob… Oh my God, Lieutenant Ruber!
NIEHAUS: Bones, is it too late?
MALONEY: I’m sorry… he’s dead Rob. What happened?
NIEHAUS: He was in Engineering when the coolant tanks ruptured.
MALONEY: Wonderful. I seem to have found myself on the voyage of the damned! Doctor Ven, get to that the operating table and stabilize those patients. Transport the rest to the holodecks; I can’t handle the overflow!
Comm tap.
MALONEY: Sickbay to Bridge. Do you think you could possibly get some damned shields for this load of titanium? I am gonna have the whole damned crew on biobeds in a few minutes! Tell that great red mass of a security officer up there that I sympathize with the crappy weapons complement, but by God fire something! What the hell is a science ship doing fighting off a Borg invasion?
YORK(comm): It seems that they aren't the Borg as we thought, Doctor. We have never encountered this race before. They are using a chroniton weapon that is out of temporal phase with our shields and can penetrate them.
MALONEY: Great, so we're not up against the Borg, we're up against something worse! We're getting our teeth kicked in, we need to tuck tail and run! Damn our orders.
YORK(comm): This situation brings to mind the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812 between the Crown and the American rebels. It was the commander of the U.S.S. Niagara that uttered the famous line, “Don't give up the ship,” and I'll be damned if I do!
MALONEY: Good for you! Maloney out!
NIEHAUS: Those damn cowards just left him lying on the deck to die! The man deserved a more dignified death than this.
MALONEY: Rob, you did everything you possibly could do. You gave him a dignified death by bringing him here. Otherwise he'd have been left to rot. Come on Rob, we're gonna get through this! If we could get through Admiral Paris' classes back at the Academy, we can get through this! You have to get a hold of yourself; you’re still Chief Engineer. We need you to keep calm and hold this bucket of bolts together. Not only are the crew and I counting on you, so is Shannon.
