This song describes the struggle between faith and doubt. It's about having trust and belief then losing it, wanting it back and being unable to get it. It's about the possibility that our need for belief in something more might have it's roots in our own fear and confusion. |

Story Behind the Song
I claimed that I could build a song from ANY drum track regardless of the style or arrangment. So an online friend (Tony Pucci) sent this drum track. I tried to break some major songwriting rules in doing this, and also tried to incorporate elements of many musical styles to put it beyond catergorization. I don't know that this would ever be used in a band setting but it was an interesting experiment.
Lyrics
If there's someone somewhere who's never known grief I suppose that's the person I'd most like to meet, and visit with them for a while. I was walking in the long lonely gallery of life and surprised by the beauty. Those who please may go any day they wish and you content yourself though never knowing your name. I don't see this as an acceptable way to exist - all this wasted faith in vain. Fear the unknown, fear being alone, this belief in something more is as old as the stars. Look into the distance for a trace of home, encountering resistance and it's your own. If there's someone somewhere with the answers I need I could drop what I'm doing and ask what it is they've seen, have belief trample doubt for a while. Can you understand or conceive, comprehend what it means? Will you construct a new theory to explain why it seems to remain unexplained, under strain - an enigma a mystery? Should it be guarded more securely or given more freely? Considered less often or valued more highly? Examined in the bright sun hidden in a dark room flooded with the spotlights abandoned in the sidestreet lost in the vague shape of clouds anonymous in a crowd discussed in a radio show dissected by a talkshow host? The fields are ripe for burning, falling and returning again... Fear the unknown, fear being alone. This belief in something more is as old as the stars. Fear the unknown, fear being alone...
