Story Behind the Song
I had to write this song for songwriting class so and I did all the recording the night before it was due so that now all of the vocals and instermints sound terrible.
I will soon rewrite the lyrics and rerecord each trck so it is to the beat and in tune.
Lyrics
Acorns and Sailing
-Michael Patnode
Certain kinds of seeds can't help but hope that soon they'll get to be sailors,
Daydreams where webs of rigging stretch between the ocean and the sky,
One acorn rolls around on planks of docks in awe of the white blurs,
Bellbottomed boys grow tall, and with their mixed emotions cresting, wave goodbye,
That box of holy books below the deck is yours if you have faith to spend,
There are crates of telescopes onboard, to bend the rules and spark the mind,
And cannons if you feel like killing, remember that lives are intertwined,
The shores you'll land on never mean as much as the journeys you intend,
An acorn felt his mother's swaying arms in the pulse of the piers,
Red autumn sun soaked all the sails, so that they nearly fell from their masts,
It's hard to leave the sheets of green that gave you shelter for so many years,
And harder still to grant that growing now will surely shrink your past,
That box of human hearts below the deck is yours if you have faith to spend,
There are crates of telescopes onboard, to make the rules and spark young minds,
And cannons if you feel like dying, remember that lives are intertwined,
The shores you'll land on never mean as much as the journeys you intend,
Smooth acorn face was fresh but far from soft, it felt the salt in the spray,
He heard the flags all snapping, clinging to the poles through gusts of change,
His inhibitions stemmed from memories of the trees that turned time into play,
And then they snapped and he smiled and he fell through the air and he landed a few feet away,
