    Story Behind the Song
The lyrics in this tune are about the awe I am in about the power of the forces & "being" of mother nature.
Written in my bedroom on anacousticas usual.
Once I had the concept it pretty much wrote itself. Took about an hour. The recording was live, & was nailed in 2 takes.

    Lyrics
    Asking Mother

words & music by Richard Michielli copyright 1998

The wind was cruel & the air was cold
The sun grew timid & the moon was bold
The stars did shine & the owl did ask
the woman whose whim would determine our past

The smoke & wind & the fire & snow
The air & the clouds & the ground below
The grass & trees & the animals sway
to the beat of the mother & her drum did say

    I am unpredictable........I am unexplainable
I am so irrational..........Yet as a whole quite natural

On borrowed breath I have questioned your name
With weaving words serpentining through rain
we slip through the cracks in the crust on the earth we stand
Like my own soul used to be dust once again will be sand
Ooh how did you get so strong, how did you get so wise
How did you grow so old
Ooh how did you get so strong, how did you grow so old
    Your storys only half told
