Story Behind the Song
this song was written in 2000, when i was a freshman, and will be rereleased as a full band song - the way it was intended. the lyrics were rewritten early one march morning in 2002, when, after a nasty fight with an ex, i was reflective in a bitter and dazed sort of way. this is a love song, a ballad in a way, but the nontraditional instrumental chorus sort of sets it apart.
Lyrics
why do i miss you? i can't have you. you're sailing on the calendar away from our briny bay. occasionally, when travel's certain, i'll play a song over the phone to you, so you'll come back to...
scrape against the dock and i'm home again in the messy lanes. wait, don't run away. i'm trying to forget the chase - train on me.
in purple tonguebath we raised the summer flag. you've spoken like a truer woman in a game of tag. you're my sister, that's what i should say. if genuine is sure well i couldn't lie and play.
hang around with rope burn neck. now the square is empty for another day. clear deck, longing towards the sea. when the rain dries, call me, and i'll kiss you where you want me to [if you want me to..]
