	Story Behind the Song This song has an amazing story behind it. (too long a story to tell here, but plenty of websites mention it) of how the cowherd Caedmon, who couldn't sing, miraculously found his voice, and became the first English poet. I've wanted to set the poem, ever since I saw it carved on a huge stone cross overlooking the town of Whitby. I tried to keep the sense of the original poem in my song, whilst translating it into modern English, and making it fit a tune easily. I thought it would be nice to include the original poem as a sample though, and needed a male Yorkshire voice to play Caedmon. Paul volunteered to do the sample for me and did a fantastic job!
