DEMO version of a deeply personal song... Someday I plan on doing this one justice...
Credits: music & lyrics by Kai Blackwood Kai Blackwood - vocals, guitars, bass Gary T - drums

    Story Behind the Song
I think the lyrics will explain a lot... Ironically, this song didn't appear on my album "Favorite Son" because I wrote it when I was almost finished making the record... this is a personal favorite of mine.

    Lyrics
It would be tough on any boy
    With such an alien face
When the love goes to the pretty ones
And this rebel child is erased
So desperate to belong and it was killing me
And the hand that held me up
Was the same hand that held me down
    But it wasn't always vinegar
I had the honey of dreams
To hide me from the broken King
    And his long-dead Queen
You know, he never even got to say good-bye
And the hand that held him up
Was the same hand that held him down
    And I know that now...

    As a man
I come into a world that's come undone
And I wonder if they'll recognize me
    After all this time...
    Their favorite son

    I wish to God I didn't care
That I could learn and move on
Heaven knows I've earned my share of scars
    And the pain's long gone
But anger doesn't really age so gracefully
When the hand that reeled me in
Is the same hand that cast me out
Now I've waded through the drama pool
I know the past is for fools
Took me years to reinvent myself
    Somehow, I'm still uncool...
But I'm here to tell the storyAnd that's all right
Because as long as I believe
It doesn't matter if they doubt
    And I know that now...

    As a man
I come into a world that's come undone
And I wonder if they'll recognize me
    After all this time...
    Their favorite son
