This song has become one of the most asked for selections for me to perform except maybe "Come On Down To My Corn Field & I'll Kiss You Behind The Ears" which will be on the next CD. Always wanted to hear Edie Gourmet sing this to me..so..if you have the time... |
CD: Just What Would I Do Without You?

Story Behind the Song
Listener-please listen first and find your own meaning. I realized years later that times of confusion and chasing this & that in the overview, didn't seem all that important for me or my friends. And yet there is a 'force' guiding the past as is the presentthat I wasn't conscious of then. That force has manifested for me and I am conscious of it now. The song encompasses a twenty to thirty year time span, but I wrote it rather quickly. It started on piano & the guitar was the main instrument for the rest of the tune. The inspiration came from a 2 hour phone call from Linda that cought me up on her past. I believe I' also just come back from a great visit at the Meher Spiritual Center in Myrtle Beach SC. The recording went smoothly. An interesting arrangement sound comes from Brady. He lets up on the piano peddles and makes a percussion sound, that if not original is totally unique.
Lyrics
You have never been familiar to me, never ever old.
We've got a lasting affair, soul to soul.
I will work to be your lover, somehow I'll let go.
I speak your name in silence, I feel you in my soul.
All my life like water I held in my hand
I thought it rode on a wild wave
But it was always in your plan
I have walked in the too familiar,
With the the memory of my years.
You always knew didn't you? You called me to be here.
Oh, Beloved, you always knew.
Oh Beloved you called me, didn't you?
You have never been familiar to me, never ever old.
We've got a lasting afair, soul to soul.
