Story Behind the Song
The melody and hook for this song came from 2 other song I was working on that didn't seem to go anywhere. I then had the basic song set up but couldn't think of any decent lyrics. That changed when I was walking to class one day and saw a long haired, bearded dude who looked like traditional representations of Jesus.
So, I thought, why not turn it into a song? The premise behind this one is that there's this guy named Jesus working as a barkeep in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He serves others (gets drinks for customers, clears off the tables), brings peace (stops bar fights), and is an all around nice guy. There are people who rip on him for working in a bar, but they've never been there so they don't know what it's really like inside.
There are plenty of parallels there, but it's up to you to decide what it means. I'm not quite sure myself. Make of it what you will...I think it's a pretty fun song.
