an acoustic ballad with a country vibe. a sliver of hope from a long-dead well of despair.

Credits: Lyrics: J. Roulette Music: Mark Bishop & Dylan Kight

    Story Behind the Song
The verses where written in late '95, at the lowest point of a life filled with low points. I was living on Capitol Ave. in SE Atlanta, down by the stadium. Junkies, dealers, thieves and prostitutes were all around(and that was just my girlfriend). I couldn't help feeling that I was as far away from heaven as a man could get.
The chorus wasn't written until Mark Bishop(Thompson Roulette) told me he had the music for it, but that it was lacking a chorus. I wrote the chorus(summer 2001) in about fifteen seconds on the back of an envelope. By this time I had met the amazing woman who would later become my wife. The chorus was for her and served to refuel my interest in a dead song. Dylan rewrote the music, keeping Bishop's basic frame. A facelift for an already beautiful song. The song debuted live on 3/16/02 at 9 Lives Saloon in Atlanta. And, yes, she did make me human once again.

    Lyrics
    I'm so far from heaven
that I might never find my way
forgive me if my head is hanging
for each night I step away...
    so far from Mary's graces
I've lost what few will ever know
took the breath out of serenity
when her hand slipped out of mine.

if she could reach out through the dark
and lay her hands upon my heart
could she absolve these awful sins
and make me human once again.

    I'm so far from heaven
that I can hear no angels singing
    a life filled with regrets
I should have never pawned my wings...
some days I am most thankful
for the shadows on my heart
    it isn't better to've loved
you cannot miss what never was.

if she could reach out through the dark
and lay her hands upon my heart
could she absolve these awful sins
and make me human once again.

    I'm so far from heaven
and walking with the worst of them
there's sorrow for what I had to do
but the choice was always there...
and of my better days, well-
    they've long since run away
    why should the saints forgive
    the existence I've created.

if she could reach out through the dark
and lay her hands upon my heart
could she absolve these awful sins
and make me human once again.
