    Story Behind the Song
Originally started in a jam session, this song evolved to entail much, much more. A sort of love story gone awry, the song's twist is that it reveals at the end that in fact the story isn't being told only to the listening audience, but to a young man at a bar eyeing a girl across the way. He considers ordering her a drink, but the crafty, more experienced older man recounting his memories gives him a warning about what could REALLY happen.

    Lyrics
It started out when she was looking for something
And I was out looking for a good time
    Maybe it was fate
    Maybe it was accidental
But ever since that day she's been mine
Now I admit that I've made some mistakes
And I haven't been a saint times before
But her words weren't quite what I expected
Last night when I walked in the door

    (Chorus)
    (And she said)
Hey baby we've both gotta be careful
'cuz I think that we're moving too fast
We've gotta work this all out together
If we want for our lovin' to last
    Want our lovin' to last...

The night we met there were sparks between us
And she didn't put up much of a fight
    I remember being completely wasted
And I don't remember much else that night
    But understand
    I'm an emotional man
I've got all kinds of emotional needs
And though I regret the state of mind I was in
I don't regret having done the deed

    (Chorus)

We went back to her place that night
And ever since that night we'd never looked back
    (Hey! Hey!)
My girl isn't much of a looker
But you know she's pretty good in the sack!
But I'm a man with a wandering spirit
and commitment ain't my kind of thing
I was in shock from the weight of the moment
    When out of nowhere
    She started to scream!

    (Chorus)

    I ran away
And I'm not sorry when I say
That 'til this day I've had no regrets
And though I hear that she's been chasing after me
She sure hasn't caught up to me yet!
    But understand
    Listen to me young man
Because this is my story to you:
Before you pick up that bottle tonight
I thought I would tell you what it could do.

    (Chorus) (x3)

    Hey baby
    I don't wanna be careful
and I don't think that we're moving too fast
I don't really wanna work it all out
and I don't want our lovin' to last
Don't want our lovin' to last!
