Story Behind the Song
I once met a sweet girl named Ashley, or Ooshla as she was called. She was a friend of a friend. We were both single, so my brilliant friends decided we'd make a nice couple. We were both attracted to each other, but the timing was bad and if our "friends" would have stopped pressuring us, maybe something would've happened. Oddly enough, we never spoke of this in each others company, I think we were too afraid to. We pretended nothing was going on.
In time we parted ways. But I saw her again a couple years later. We got together to hang out once, and she asked me to her senior prom. I hate dancing. I said no. I wish I hadn't.
On the way out of her bedroom, I noticed in the corner of my eye that she still had a picture of me pinned on her wall. Small and out of sight, it could have been there for all that time, but something told me I made a big mistake.
I changed my mind about the dance, and called her back once a week for two months. She was never home, and I left a message each time someone else answered. She never called back. I haven't seen her since.
I should have said "yes".
Lyrics
i should have said "yes" when you asked me to dance
two months away, and i've not had the chance
torture had always made sense
my cuts were deeper than words should have been
hung up the phone as i waited for calls back
words pierce the silence and bring me back
lipstick has clouded your face
but your eyes, still buried in me will never die
and i can't even sing anymore
no one said that i could in the first place
and these drip drops of blood are the last trace
fall from the steps,
fall on the ground,
fall in the doorway
where no one is laughing right now
can't you see time is short
and i feel left out
