Story Behind the Song
The parody song "Pop Star" was written and sung by Tavishe Coulson in response to the ongoing politics in the music industry, where talentless wannabes become rich and popular and the people who actually have talent get cast aside by record companies in favour of increased cash flow.
Song written and recorded in mid-June 2002.
Lyrics
Listen, this music’s so bad
You got to be deaf to like this pure crap
Listen, it broke my CD player, oh
The lyrics are so bad, and I can’t even sing
Every time you hear that song
You plug your ears begging it to stop
Chorus:
I am a pop star
I just drone on
A bunch of clones, dancing to the same song
Oh, pop star
There are too many
Honey listen to me, I’ve go no talent
How did, I get a record deal?
My agent loves me, but I’m not for real
I can’t see why my CD’s Platinum, oh
And you’re just wasting
Your money on me
Being shallow means so much more
When that is all I am fighting for!
I am a pop star
I just drone on
A bunch of clones, dancing to the same song
Oh, pop star
There are too many
Honey listen to me, I’ve go no talent
I am a pop star
Pop star
STOP! Please stop! My ears!
I am a pop star, yeah
I just drone on
All night long
Oh, baby you can’t stop me
I’ll blast with my nasal voice, just wait and see
I am a pop star
I just drone on
A bunch of clones, dancing to the same song
Oh, pop star
There are too many
Honey listen to me, I’ve go no talent
Pop Star
Honey listen to me, I’ve go no talent
