    Story Behind the Song
This cynical tune should be played on a system with a subwoofer at high volume. Strange, robotic sounding vocals and a solid big drum beat are featured, and it is one of the Band's favorites, despite their diversified tastes.

    Lyrics
    EarthDay

What's the point of earth-day, when you're smoking cigarettes?
Think they care what you say? Everybody place your bets.
Oh he's such a nice boy, but he's got an attitude.
So he gets a label, 'cause he shows no gratitude.
Now it doesn't matter what you say, or do, or think,
    Ain't no latitude.
Still you try to please them, but you get a dirty deal.
It don't matter who you're with, or how you look, or speak,
    Don't matter how ya feel...

    chorus:
But then when the time comes (and now that the time comes),
If you speak your mind out (when you speak your mind out),
Better learn to roll with the puches, roll with the blows,
Don't try to smash them right in the nose,
It never works, so go for the toes, and,
Think earthday, anyway, good earth day, anyway

When you think of earth day, think of all the pretty stuff.
Hope you get some lee-way - if you don't it could be rough.
Watch as rich kids go play, never think you'll have enough.
Try to do it their way, go ahead and call their bluff.
Well it doesn't matter what you say or do or think,
    If you're "out" it's tough.
Will they reconsider? Wanna buy the Brooklyn bridge?
'Cause it doesn't matter what you stroke or what you kiss,
    Can't fix the damage.

    Chorus

Why ya cleaning next door, when your house is such a mess?
Wonder what the guard's for? If you think I'll bet you'll guess...
Make a contribution, but you're in somebody's way.
Fight an institution? Might as well declare earth day.
Well it doesn't matter what you say, or do, or think,
    Someone's got to pay.
Nature can recover, maybe in a thousand years.
It won't matter if you cry or yell or scream,
    Don't care 'bout your tears.

    Chorus

Next year when it's earth day, hope that we can celebrate.
If it's really OK, man that really would be great.
Try to keep a clear head, try to keep your sanity.
Easy 'nuff to be dead, hard to feed your vanity.
Well it doesn't matter what you try to say or try to do,
    For humanity.
Go into the board room, look the chairman in the face.
Tell him that these heavy handed tactics just won't do if he loves the place.

Chorus (first two lines in parentheses above)
