Story Behind the Song
"Most of my songs are named for something in the environment in which the song was written. In the case of 'Sarah on the Spot,' the event that took place immediately prior to my coming up with this progression was Christopher Critelli's singing of 'Sarah,' from the Civil War musical. The 'on the Spot' came from the fact that the progression came to me, literally, in that fashion. It also fits nicely with the film noir/damsel in distress kind of mood that the song gives you. John helped me tweek the progression and had the idea to do a section in 3/4 time (the original progression is the 4/4 part.) Paul wrote a beautiful melody."
