Mock exaltation of our not-a-crook President, followed by a frenzied jam with an unceremonious ending. |

Story Behind the Song
Ed wrote this song. Other band members have contributed lyrics. There are many verses on paper and in other recorded versions of this song. Everybody has something to say about Tricky Dick, some of it not poetic enough to justify lengthening the song. Perhaps significantly, this version is our shortest and most preferred.
Lyrics
It's a long way down
To the bottom of the ladder
I think I'm losing ground
My head's spinning like a top
Where are all my friends
Where's everybody when you need them?
Oh oh oh...
Richard Milhous Nixon is my name
All that they remember is my shame
If they really think it matters, they're insane
Hope they re-elect me just the same
It's a long way down
To the bottom of the barrel
You know the one bad apple
Is always on the top
Where's all my friends
Where's everybody when you need them
Oh, oh, oh...
Richard Milhous Nixon had it made
Planter box of poppies in the shade
Jostled all the branches, made it rain
Flooded every office, left a stain...
R.M.N. ...
Your empty-headed forfeit
You gave deceit your open hand
In order to regain command
R.M.N. ...
You should have stayed in China
It's colder there but you could share
Your warmth with all the populace.
R.M.N. ...
Your nation lies before you
A huddled mass, a screaming mob
A hurricane of tears and sobs...
R.I.P. R.M.N. (barely audible)
