	Story Behind the Song In late 2001 legendary bassist Eddie Gomez and jazz pianist Mark Kramer began to review ideas for their fourth recording together. They were looking for material that had depth, and that would bring lasting value to their fans. In an impromptu conversation, Kramer mentioned to Gomez the idea of recording a Jazz version of Fiddler on The Roof. Originally, the recording was to include a jazz violinist. However, Gomez remarked, "I am the Fiddler." Gomez was indeed the perfect "fiddler" for the jazz version. Mark and Eddie next set about the draconian task of changing the entire score of the Boradway show and movie of Fiddler into a jazz score. A few months later, music in hand, they along with drummer John Mosemann recorded the CD. The recording distributed internationally by MYTHIC JAZZ RECORDS (thejazzmall.com) is emotionally riveting. MATCHMAKER, MATCHMAKER is one of the show's flagship tunes. It was chosen for MP3.com to introduce listeners to the magic that can result when tranforming "Broadway" into pure jazz.
