Story Behind the Song
I wrote this song in March/April of 2002. A friend of mine was getting married, and going home to Minnesota permanently. Its sort of a whimsical "what if things had been different..." song.
Lyrics
"Rest easy" she says
Its easy for her to say,
Im not turning her world upside down.
"Be patient" she says "be patient for me,
I think I know what weve got to do now"
In a perfect world you could be my Calliope,
wouldnt be any doubt or others around,
I could be your Apollo, Orpheus, Cyrano,
we wouldnt be stuck.
And like springtime brings rain, storms in May would wash her away and theres no stopping that. Shes going back to St Paul where shell believe in us
and Ill keep searching for something in a shade of gray, for the time we have left. She falls on me like rain, drenches me like rain.
"Im hoping this kiss can quell all my flames" she says
Im hoping that she cant continue to resist.
"Im trying so hard not to let this affect things" she says closing her eyes and we kiss.
I try to remember not to let this run away with me,
cause honestly Id like to run away with you.
Its a comfort to know what might have happened,
harder to realize its something thats not true.
