Story Behind the Song
The "world of work" has has dramatic changes to the average employee over the last 20 years. Today in California, most are expected to work 50-70 hours each week plus manditory travel and training classes pile up on top of the regular job responsibilities. Technical workers feel used, exhausted, and beat down. Add to this the media telling you to spend even more money for "this and that" People are exhausted and numb. When I was laid off I had to write this song to heal my soul. This song was written in Palo Alto in 2001, took just two days to write and was recorded in one day, with 3 takes.
Lyrics
Now's the time I take a stand
see a different light
Well the money it sure is nice but you pay the price
A big pay check, a thing of the past, on a different heap
I like the things money can buy but the price is steep,
yeah!! pay the price pay the price
like it or not you'll pay the price
Know who you are and what you want, have time to think
To come and go when you decide but the price is steep.
Faster cars and bigger homes new this and that
In the end it's s bunch of junk and that's a fact
Yeah pay the price Pay the price like it or not you'll pay the price.
