A tongue-in-cheek view of why a rock band I played in didn't play country.
CD: Just Another Norm L Guy

    Story Behind the Song
I played bass and sung for a Rock band that played mostly current rock and alternative cover tunes, with an occassional 70's or 80's rock tune thrown in the mix. Every time we played (around the north Houston and Conroe, Texas areas), someone would ask "y'all play any country?" or "why don't y'all play no country?" This was written as both a response to their request and an answer to their question. I recorded all the parts myself, so it sounded even more country with me on the guitars.

    Lyrics

    1:
I like my showers and my women and my coffee all hot
    I got a pistol and a rifle I'm a pretty good shot
I raised a lot of chickens and I've raised a lots a hell
I got a tattoo on my arm while I was in jail
My blue jeans are so tight that they're gonna bust a seam
Winning something big has always been my dream
I've lost a lot of money more than my fair share
If I need a full house I've only got a pair
If you think I'm a redneck you got it all wrong
I'm a walkin', talkin', livin', breathin' country song
    2:
I've got a beat up truck I park in the yard Its always on empty I can't get a gas card
I wear reflector sun glasses my gas cap's a rag
I think that ole glory's the confederate flag
My fav'rite entertainment is the television I watch a fishin' show, a tractor pull or wrestlin'
If you think I'm a redneck you got it all wrong
I'm a walkin', talkin', livin', breathin' country song
    (lead)
    3:
Well if I had a hundred dollars I'd think I got it made
But I'm broke till Friday then I'm gonna get paid
Prob'ly spend it all by Monday got a big weekend ahead
Late Sunday night before I fine'ly get to bed
A peanut butter sandwich and a nanner Moon Pie R.C. Cola when my mouth is kind a dry
A can of Copenhagen and a Lone Star beer
A bass boat, an ice chest, and fishin' gear
Yeah if you think I'm a redneck you got it all wrong
I'm a walkin', talkin', livin', breathin' country song
Son if you think I'm a redneck you got it all wrong
I'm a walkin', talkin', livin', breathin' country song
(spoken at end)Yeah…I fell off the turnup truck on a Tuesday, but it wasn't LAST Tuesday
