    Story Behind the Song
This song is one of my few autobiographical songs, was truly inspired and took only minutes to write whilst driving home on the 405. Features guitar work and programming by Jon Esler

    Lyrics
    IF ONLY

    Verse

Sometimes I sit down and review
Where I have been and I'm going to
Sometimes I fall asleep at night
Wake up in a panic, full of fright

Wondering how could I be here
At the same place that I've been for years
The struggle should long ago be gone
And still I don't know where I went wrong

    Chorus

IF ONLY I pushed a little harder
IF ONLY I stepped back and eased up
IF ONLY I said what I was thinking
IF ONLY I kept my big mouth shut
Then I would be who, I should have been
    if I did

    Verse

Life didn't turn out like you planned
Don't know how much more you can stand
A promising outlook looked so good
When you started out in childhood

Maybe if you did everything right
Maybe if you had some foresight
Beat yourself up again and again
For something you can't seem to comprehend

    Chorus

IF ONLY you pushed a little harder
IF ONLY you stepped back and eased up
IF ONLY you said what you were thinking
IF ONLY you kept your big mouth shut
Then you would be who, you should have been

    Bridge

By some ironic twist of fate you and I have found each other
See what progress we can make, what new ground we'll get to cover
    I'll understand your anxiety
'Cause when I look at you, I see me

    Verse

Now when I sit down and review
It's not so bad since I found you
And when I fall asleep at night
We share the panic, share the fright

Wondering how could we be here
Two of a kind with just one fear…

    Chorus

IF ONLY we pushed a little harder
IF ONLY we stepped back and eased up
IF ONLY we said what we were thinking
IF ONLY we kept our big mouths shut
Then we wouldn't be who we are now
    IF ONLY …
