This title was my first trip into the world of hemiolas. I tried to make it complex and understandable at the same time. Composed, recorded and mixed in March, 2002. |

Story Behind the Song
For a long time I was excited by the principle of the hemiola. The coexistence of two meanings for one beat at the same time thrilled me, yet I never really liked the way Jazz musicians expressed it. It was too loose for me, and I wanted to REALLY FEEL these two entities interact.
Degauss was my first attempt at doing it like I always wanted.
I played all the parts on my Korg Triton synthesizer, without using the Quantize option. This way I tried to make this electronic piece a little more "lively". The recording process took me about two weeks to complete, as I am very stubborn about perfecting my takes. I am very aware of the influence of John Weathers (Gentle Giant's drummer) on my drum parts. I always had a funky edge to my electronics thanks to him.
I did the mixing in a local studio. I am not too pleased with the overall mix, and hopefully I will soon get a better mix.
This is also my first step towards my own electronic music album.
