Hold Out Your Hand is the opening cut on the Due North "Follow Me" CD. The song has a cool drum rhythm along with very interesting acoustic guitar parts (played by Bradley Ford) and superb vocal parts (sung by Anna Jordan). In the usual Due North (Ford & Jordan) fashion, particular attention was paid to the melody and lyrics - they will grab you! For more information on Due North, go to wingrec.com |

Story Behind the Song
The Due North "Follow Me" album was recorded in Bradley Ford's home studio. For the technically minded, most of the tracks for the album were originally recorded on two Alesis ADAT Digital Audio Recorders. Later, additional tracking and editing was done on a PC with a Frontier Designs Dakota/Tango 24 interface, using Syntrillium's Cool Edit Pro software.
Hold Out Your Hand - Recording Notes
Brad - I remember writing this song on a very cold winter day - it was snowing very hard outside. Oklahoma City was shut down by the storm - I was home messing around in my studio. My kids were outside playing in the snow, and my wife Jodie was in the kitchen cooking something for the cold winter day. It's funny, because Anna ended up writing the lyrics about sand, beach, and seaside - inspired by a trip to Florida. But, as always with us, the contrast works perfectly. The rhythmic structure and acoustic guitar parts for this song were inspired by Out of the Grey's "See Inside" album. The acoustic guitar parts were recorded using a Martin D-18. The electric guitar is a faint reminder of the sound on the old song "Mr. Sand Man". I used a Lexicon chorusing effect on Anna's vocal on this song, and I think that it really brought out her outstanding vocal performance.
Anna - The lyrics to Hold Out Your Hand are based on the "feel" of the music. Brad and I have used many different methods of collaboration, but I was so absorbed by the beat and rhythm of this song, that to get a feel for a message, I played the song, blaring on the headphones, over and over until an emotional picture began to form. The driving beat of the drums in the introduction felt like a lover's heartbeat. The acoustic guitar evoked thoughts of romance. My husband and kids and I had returned from a recent Christmas trip to Florida; therefore, the picture of sandy beaches and warm, starry nights still lingered in my mind. Although Brad and I were inspired in opposite climate settings, the elements of love, and family security remained a common factor within the creation of Hold Out Your Hand. This song was fun to write and record and remains a favorite.

We dance beneath the countless stars of night
Along the rolling ocean seaside
I hear no other beat except your heart
Your smile outshines the fairest moonlight
Hold out your hand, Come close to me
And we'll dance til dawn appears beyond the sea
Cool ocean breeze invokes a warm embrace
Waves crash the misty seashore
Hold out your hand, Come close to me
And we'll dance til dawn appears beyond the sea
Tide is rushing in
Shells drift in the sand
Love stirs deep within
So hold out your hand
Hold out your hand, Come close to me
And we'll dance til dawn appears beyond the sea
